Hooray! Today marks the digital release of our soundtrack to our short film, THE SILENCE. Shot in 2011 in Cardiff, UK, this film was made possible by partial funding by the Welsh Arts Council and the infinite patience of our cast (Gareth Milton) and crew.
Here it is on iTunes.

VINYL PREORDER HERE.

Maf & I like to work within the guidelines of a “manifesto” we call Synkronica – where the director, writer (or writers) and composer work in sync with each other, creating simultaneously, to create a piece of art where each aspect, visual and sonic, inform each other thoughout the process…to make something where all ingredients are truly “made for each other”. Neither being an afterthought. That’s the way I see it, anyway.

So – this film was created not only using that process with the music, but was created with the intention of me performing the score live – so it needed to be something I could pull off live as well.

We debuted the film and score at the Mountain Oasis Festival in 2013 (see above video) to great response (thankfully!! Whew..) and shortly after hooked up with the magnificent Lex Records to release the soundtrack.

However, after the “live version” of the film was finished, I did have many ideas from creating the score that I wanted to expand upon. Making this soundtrack gave me the chence to do just that. I like that – the soundtrack isnt a “carbon copy” of the music from the film, but extended thoughts that I wanted you to hear. There are a few songs that do not appear in the film – the lead single “Run” and the interlude “Insomniac” – were actually reflections on the film after I made the score. So – the extended score is just that, me holed up in a barn-studio in Cowbridge, Wales extending pieces & ideas that hatched during the creation of the score. It was a blast.

I was very fortunate to have Dave Spiers and Ben Edwards (Benge!) lend me a few synths that allowed me to finish this and add a few more “personnel” to the list – Benge’s Korg 770S, Dave’s OB8 & OSCar were lovingly worked to death! Ha.

Dave's OB8 & OSCar, and Benge's 770S await being hoisted up into the studio barn-loft.

SO! I hope you enjoy the score, the vinyl will be released by Lex very soon as well, watch this space for release date!
